Occupational Therapy Assistant Specialist

Job Description:
Under general supervision, the Occupational Therapy Assistant Specialist assists in providing direct occupational therapy services to children. This role requires working within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures under the guidance of an assigned administrator.
Responsibilities:
- Providing direct occupational therapy services to children according to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and goals
- Documenting therapy provided and recording progress
- Maintaining related logs and preparing reports
- Collaborating with IEP team members to determine the nature and extent of motor disabilities
- Assisting with data collection
- Participating in IEP meetings as necessary
- Assisting in the development of occupational therapy plans and goals as part of the IEP process in collaboration with OTRs
- Consulting with staff and families on the appropriate implementation of educational programs related to motor skill development
- Recommending materials, activities, and assistive devices to facilitate motor skill development in children with disabilities
- Demonstrating educational and developmental motor strategies to children and families
- Recommending equipment, supplies, and assessment materials for purchase to OTRs
- Communicating with other professionals serving children
- Participating in local and state presentations as necessary
- Attending staff and inservice training meetings
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school; possession of an Associate's degree in occupational therapy; previous work experience with children (ages three to twenty-two); experience working in a school setting; experience working as a member of a transdisciplinary team; experience working collaboratively with families as well as experience working with special needs children desirable
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License
- Certification by the National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
Estimated Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience and location.
Working Conditions: The Occupational Therapy Assistant Specialist will work in an indoor and outdoor environment with constant interruptions. They may be required to drive a vehicle to conduct work and perform strenuous physical work in lifting, carrying, moving, and positioning students up to adult size. The physical demands of this role require dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, sitting or standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, and stooping regularly, and meeting the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively.
