Structured Cable Technician II

As a Technician II at AFL, you will work with moderate supervision and guidance from a Technician III or operations coordinator to install, test, and troubleshoot telecommunication connectivity systems.

You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and professional appearance, loading and unloading supplies and equipment, and accepting direction and critiques from team members in higher classifications.

You will also be knowledgeable about the proper use of basic hand tools, able to act professionally and courteously with customers, and able to install copper and fiber optic cable, terminate copper cable, and create and install labels.

Additionally, you will be able to perform component and system testing, complete tasks in a timely manner, understand basic wiring diagrams and installation instructions, and work with small telecommunication components.

You will also have the opportunity to train other Technician II and Technician I, use proper care of company assets, and complete basic paperwork according to company policies and procedures.

We are looking for individuals who possess analytical thinking, conflict management and resolution skills, results-focused abilities, and strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a clean and professional appearance
  • Loading and unloading supplies and equipment
  • Accepting direction and critiques from team members
  • Using basic hand tools
  • Acting professionally and courteously with customers
  • Installing copper and fiber optic cable
  • Terminating copper cable
  • Creating and installing labels
  • Performing component and system testing
  • Completing tasks in a timely manner
  • Understanding basic wiring diagrams and installation instructions
  • Working with small telecommunication components
  • Training other Technician II and Technician I
  • Using proper care of company assets
  • Completing basic paperwork according to company policies and procedures

Requirements include:

  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening
  • Valid driver's license
  • Finger and wrist dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work from heights and use small hand tools
  • Ability to use power tools
  • Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., and drive a vehicle

Working conditions include:

  • Job performed in indoor/outdoor environments under multiple environmental conditions
  • Ability to accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from immediate district office area based on client needs, business needs, and project scope
  • Exposure to noisy or dusty conditions; chemicals and solvents; mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards

General hours of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, with the ability to provide support during and outside regular business hours.
