School Counselor Position

Counselors play a vital role in supporting students' academic, personal, and career development. As a School Counselor, you will provide individualized services to students, focusing on prevention and crisis intervention. Your expertise will help students develop essential skills, such as problem-solving, decision-making, and coping mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities- Provide academic support to students, including individualized instruction and group guidance
- Develop and implement personal and social skills programs to promote student well-being
- Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to ensure a comprehensive support system for students
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify student needs and develop targeted interventions
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and community members to ensure a supportive environment
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a State of Alaska Type C Special Service certificate with an endorsement in school counseling
- Must have recent experience at the appropriate grade level, including teaching, counseling, or relevant educational experiences
- Must be aware of regulations regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973/ADA and district procedures for referral, evaluation, and accommodation
- Must possess knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, and materials for grade level(s) of instructional specialty
- Good knowledge of child growth and development
- Some knowledge of school program studies related to assignments
- Ability to utilize multimedia and computer technology as appropriate
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and community members
- Skills in oral and written communication
