Job Summary

Henry Ford Health System is seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing life-support, resuscitation, monitoring, and various medical gases therapy to patients. You will perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures to Intensive Care and General Practice Units patients. You will maintain clinical expertise for Departmental assignments at various business units throughout HFHS, as assigned. You will communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, and other system employees as needed, regarding patient care needs. You will adequately document all aspects of patient care. You will supervise, direct, and delegate to Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory orients, externs, and students, as assigned. You will complete necessary and accurate patient billing information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform patient assessment, care-planning, and collaboration with other health care providers. Patient care provides 100% of work hours.
  • Delegate aspects of patient care appropriately to support staff (Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory orients, externs, and students, as assigned), providing necessary communication and guidance to those support providers.
  • Function as a team member in care of patients and in mentoring with other staff.
  • Communicate with co-workers, and other professionals, including physicians and nurses as needed to ensure optimal patient care. Attend and actively contribute to daily bedside rounds.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical excellence, according to Departmental policies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in various Departmental subspecialties, clinical areas, life support, diagnostic, and monitoring equipment, as assigned. Display competency in various special procedures and protocols, and work in multiple IPD locations as assigned.
  • Maintain clinical productivity standards.
  • Maintain technical clinical expertise through professional associations and educational activities.
  • Stay current in Respiratory Therapy developments by attending conferences, participating in in-services, staff meetings, and peer review/chart review as appropriate.
  • Perform specific duties as determined by site assignments, which may include equipment cleaning, maintenance, repair, and testing.
  • Document patient care timely and in accordance with department standards.
  • Maintain awareness of patient safety issues within the clinic and in the use of equipment.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality according to HFHS HIPAA policies.
