Responsibilities- Clean teeth of patients professionally through scaling and polishing.
- Administer approved dental preventive treatments, such as application of drugs to surface tissues and to exposed surfaces of teeth.
- Advise patients on correct home care and treatment of teeth and gums.
- Set up instruments and supplies for procedures.
- Clean and sterilize treatment rooms and instruments after procedure completion.
- Provide maintenance and infection control of instruments and handpieces.
- Take preoperative and postoperative radiographs, including processing, developing, labeling, and filing in patients' charts.
- Provide instructions and demonstrations with models to groups regarding dental care and correct methods of brushing teeth and gums.
- Maintain records of services rendered.
- Assist with organizing patient follow-up visits.
- High school graduate plus graduate of recognized school of dentistry or dental hygiene accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation of American Dental Association and approved by board or alternative dental hygiene training program.
- Licensure to practice dental hygiene in State of Texas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- CPR certification.
