This position is for a skilled Aircraft Mechanic to join the Army National Guard Units. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of aircraft and providing technical guidance to flight crews.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and monitor maintenance, servicing, inspections, and documentation for military aircraft.
- Perform work in complex conditions, including all weather and night operations.
- Participate in mission preparation and recovery operations.
- Expedite aircraft operations, including concurrent servicing, refueling, and reconfiguration of equipment.
- Perform preflight, through-flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.
- Serve as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft.
- Work closely with maintenance supervisors and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status.
- Control and perform work assignments based on priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material, and personnel.
- Make diagnoses and solve malfunctions of aircraft systems and components using complex computerized and non-computerized Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies, experienced in-flight characteristics, and system malfunctions.
- Perform in-process and final inspection of others' work on assigned aircraft and components and certify by signature adherence to work procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications.
- Make decisions on a wide range of matters to ensure assigned aircraft is in the highest state of readiness and that maintenance performed is in accordance with the highest standards of safety, quality, and technical compliance.
- Must possess journeyman level experience in installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.
- Must possess specialized experience as a dedicated crew chief, performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing work and periodic inspections on an aircraft, coordinating work of other journey level workers, and serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
