Position Overview

The Field Operations Team Leader (FOTL) reports directly to the Regional Service Manager and serves as the primary leader for Technicians in the field. The FOTL is accountable for ensuring that each Technician adheres to Sunrun's operational standards regarding safety and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Technician Management

  • Oversee a team of 8-10 Field Service Technicians, focusing on safety protocols, inventory management, performance metrics, skills development, and time management.
  • Provide performance evaluations and coaching for Technicians who are not meeting established standards.
  • Conduct daily meetings with assigned Technicians to ensure they are well-prepared for their tasks and maintain ongoing communication throughout the day.
  • Manage daily schedules to maximize the number of customers serviced by Technicians.
  • Deliver daily updates to the Regional Manager and compile weekly reports on Technician performance.

Individual Contributions

  • Perform service appointments as an individual contributor, with the volume determined by the Regional Service Manager (approximately 30% of working hours).
  • Surpass established performance metrics, including Success Rate and Completion Rate.
  • Assist the Regional Service Manager with customer escalations and act as the primary responder for urgent situations.
  • Participate in various projects and initiatives as required by business needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience as a Senior Service Technician, Certified Technician, or Senior Certified Technician (or equivalent) is essential. Prior supervisory or management experience is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in residential solar is required.
  • A valid state or local Electrical Journeyman certification or license is preferred (may be required in certain regions).
  • Familiarity with current NEC codes is necessary.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles related to solar interconnection and PV system operations.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; post-secondary education or certification is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, maintain a clean driving record, and be able to pass a background check.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Salesforce, Dispatch console (or similar scheduling software), and Tableau is required.

Additional Skills

  • A positive attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure, with a strong team-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to multitask while ensuring high performance in individual responsibilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including active listening, both in writing and verbally.
  • A strong work ethic, analytical mindset, and the ability to manage people effectively while leading by example.
  • Direct experience in repairing Solar and Battery Equipment.
  • Familiarity with Solar and Battery equipment manufacturer online portals, RMA processes, and troubleshooting procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Capability to transport materials and equipment for job tasks (up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance).
  • Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces, requiring frequent bending, twisting, climbing, and balancing.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures and weather.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings, and work safely with chemicals.
