About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at Mass General Brigham. As a key member of our radiology department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of exceptional healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate ultrasound-imaging equipment to acquire images and provide an initial interpretation of exams to physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.
  • Select proper imaging techniques and ensure that two points of patient identification are obtained, that patients are properly prepared, and obtain relevant patient history.
  • Deliver patient care under the scope of license/training, utilizing universal precaution techniques as well as safety techniques specific to patient status.
  • Perform ultrasound studies on premature infants in an intensive care unit, being knowledgeable about illnesses related to this patient population and the various types of care being provided.
  • Be knowledgeable in the operation of all equipment to be used during the workday, notifying appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.
  • Rotate within department, divisions, and all off-site clinics, by shifts as required and needed, cooperating with all personnel, promoting harmony within the department.
  • Execute paperwork, PACS, RIS, and reporting functions as necessary for each patient exam, preparing the equipment, room, and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use.
  • Stock and supply room and general department area as needed, may oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department.
  • Participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects carried on in the department, assuming all responsibilities for on-call coverage and remaining flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary.
  • Remain up to date on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment, participating in education programs and meeting state and national requirements for continuing educational credits.
  • Transport and transfer patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines, using independent judgment and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations when performing patient exams.
Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an AMA accredited Ultrasound Program with a minimum of 12 months' full-time clinical ultrasound experience.
  • Must meet the requirements and successfully complete the ARDMS certification (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) or equivalent.
  • Must become registered in all the institution's accredited specialties: first specialty or additional specialty must be completed within one year of start of employment, second specialty within second year of employment, and additional specialties as required by the accreditation agency.
Skills and Abilities
  • Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures and cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Work requires several weeks training to acquire necessary familiarity with imaging procedures, techniques, and methods.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to changing pace within the department, with frequent interruptions.
  • Presents a positive attitude and a professional appearance.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting (linen, supplies, patients, etc.).
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Radiology Information System and Hospital Information System for registering patients.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles as a member of the department team.
  • Must be aware of hazards within the department, adhering to safety standards established by Brigham & Women's Hospital and other regulatory agencies (large magnetic field, ionizing radiation, universal precautions, etc.).
