Job Summary

Northwell Health is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Safety Expert to join our team. As a key member of our Radiation Safety Office, you will be responsible for coordinating and administering the radiation protection program for x-rays and radioactive materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Guidance: Provide expert advice and guidance to the Radiation Safety function, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Meeting Coordination: Organize and prepare agendas for quarterly radiation safety and radioactive drug research committee meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Policy Development: Maintain and update the hospital radiation safety manual, ensuring it remains current and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Proposal Review: Review radioactive materials research proposals for IRB approval, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Proposal Submission: Submit proposals to the Radiation Safety Committee as required, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Program Oversight: Oversee radiation safety programs, including personnel radiation monitoring, extended fluoroscopy monitoring, investigation of radiation incidents, and management of clinical and laboratory radioactive materials permits.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Report to nuclear medicine, radiology, and radiation oncology quality assurance committees and hospital safety committee, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Preparation and Planning: Prepare for license inspections by regulatory agencies and Joint Commission surveys, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • Additional Duties: Perform related duties as required, ensuring the effective operation of the Radiation Safety Office.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Certification: Certification by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologist, the American Board of Health Physics Certification, American Board in Medical Physics, or American Board in Science in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Experience: 2 years of relevant experience.
