The Department of Surgery - Histo & Immuno is excited to announce an opening for a Lead Histology Technician. The selected candidate will serve as a laboratory expert responsible for preparing tissue samples from surgical specimens for histological analysis, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemical procedures. This role requires the use of laboratory and hospital systems to access essential data and perform necessary functions. Additionally, the incumbent will be involved in tissue processing and sectioning.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Prepares tissue samples for microscopic evaluation and manages complex tasks related to immunohistochemistry for clinical diagnosis.

2. Oversees and evaluates quality control measures within designated laboratory settings.

3. Assesses the validity of testing outcomes and the functionality of laboratory instruments.

4. Ensures proper maintenance of all laboratory equipment and manages the procurement of reagents and materials.

5. Keeps detailed records of samples, including accessioning and the management of paraffin block and slide archives.

6. Adheres to established specimen handling and processing protocols.

7. Engages in the development and revision of departmental policies and procedures.

8. Provides mentorship and leadership to team members within the assigned section.

9. Suggests enhancements for laboratory operations.

10. Addresses clinical and patient inquiries with confidentiality, integrity, and discretion.

11. Identifies and resolves issues related to equipment and specimen integrity.

12. Reviews slides under a microscope to ensure tissue preparation aligns with laboratory standards.

13. Complies with University and unit-level policies and procedures while safeguarding University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Certification in a pertinent specialty or field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
