About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Operations Manager to join our team at Amazon. As a key member of our AWS Infrastructure Services team, you will be responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.

This is a unique opportunity to work on the most challenging problems in the industry, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain. You will collaborate with a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure, ensuring high-quality work and minimal impact on internal/external customers.
  • Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians in all facets of their career.
  • Engage in improvement projects, often requiring collaboration with various support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.
  • Coordinate daily with third-party vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
  • Routinely operate as the after-hours on-call Data Center Operations Manager for the data centers in the region, responding to issues and managing their investigation, mitigation, and recovery.

Requirements
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline, or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.
  • 3+ years of experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent understanding of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations.
  • Proven track record of people management and team development.
  • Ability to solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.
  • Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Ability to maintain SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting.
  • Ability to follow accurate and complete support procedures, system documentation, and issue tracking entries.
  • Good judgment and instincts in decision-making.
  • Ability to prioritize in complex, fast-paced environments.
  • Proactive and continuous improvement of knowledge about Amazon business and relevant technologies.
  • Able to demonstrate ownership of technical issues brought to them by their customer base.
