Job Summary:
As a key member of our team at LONG ISLAND VITREORETINAL CONSULTANTS, P.C., the Surgical Coordinator will serve as a liaison between patients and physicians, ensuring seamless communication and coordination of ambulatory surgeries and procedures. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent customer relations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Schedule patient ambulatory surgical procedures and post-operative appointments with precision and accuracy
• Coordinate combined surgical cases with second surgeons' offices, confirming procedure codes, lens calculations, and special circumstances
• Answer surgical scheduling phone lines in a professional and pleasant manner, verifying patient demographic and insurance information
• Coordinate and schedule medical clearances based on diagnosis, cardiac, pulmonary, and endocrine issues with PCP, Cardiologist, and/or Endocrinologist
• Understand medical requirements needed prior to surgery for adult and pediatric cases based on location of planned procedures
• Follow up on preoperative surgical paperwork to forward to the pre-surgical testing department at the hospital/surgical center
• Inform hospital/surgical center of any special surgical needs
• Interact with technical and nursing staff to ensure accurate medical histories, medications, and allergies
• Enter appointment information and scan related paperwork into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Review the next working day schedule and notify appropriate physicians when adding on emergency cases within a 24-hour period
• Coordinate physicians' block schedule working with hospital/surgical center Nurse Manager
• Verify doctor/facility insurance participation prior to scheduling cases
• Counsel patients pre-operatively regarding their potential financial obligation and collect pre-surgical coinsurance/copayments/deductibles
• Liaison to the billing department regarding payment plans
• Post-surgical charges on a daily basis per established guidelines
• Ensure no schedule conflicts
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent customer relations
• Knowledge of EMR required
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of third-party billing required
• Medical office experience required
• Strong knowledge of coding a plus
• Flexibility to travel to different offices
