Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at The Center for Autism Education. As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will play a critical role in providing speech, language, voice, fluency, or dysphagia therapy services to students with autism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement speech, language, voice, fluency, or dysphagia therapy services with students at The Center for Autism Education
  • Use a variety of communication modes with students, including sign language, oral, written, and low to high tech augmentative/alternative communication
  • Perform diagnostic evaluations at school district or parent request
  • Produce a hard copy of diagnostic evaluations completed
  • Identify and prepare present levels of academic achievement function (PLAAF) and propose goals for Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Submit all IEP information on students to the Special Education Case Manager in written format
  • Consult with and make recommendations to Special Education Program Coordinator/Teacher, Classroom Supervisors, Behavioral Assistants, and school district coordinators for generalization of skills learned in therapy to the classroom setting
  • Consult with and make recommendations to parents for generalization of skills learned in therapy to the home setting
  • Record data on IEP goals weekly and mark quarterly progress as collected by the Special Education Director
  • Record student attendance and therapy time spent with each student
  • Educate staff on pertinent speech and language topics
  • Maintain supervision and safety of students at all times
  • Attend required staff development training
  • Complete Safe Crisis Management training and effectively use restraints/transfers with students in crisis
  • Effectively able to stoop, bend, lift up to 20 pounds, kneel, sit on the floor, walk a distance of up to one mile at a time, and run at a brisk pace in order to support a student who elopes
Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Communication Disorders or Speech Language Pathology
  • A state licensure in the field of Speech Language Pathology
  • A Clinical Certificate of Competence by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • Experience working with students with autism and other developmental disabilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Working Conditions

Work will be performed inside The Center for Autism Education, in a temperature-controlled, smoke-free environment. Work may also be performed in the form of community outings with students.
