Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at Dallas County. As a key member of our Juvenile Department, you will play a critical role in providing specialized outpatient services and substance abuse counseling to youths under our jurisdiction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions to support youths in achieving their goals and overcoming challenges.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that address the unique needs of each youth, including substance abuse, mental health, and behavioral issues.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as social workers, teachers, and law enforcement, to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to youth services.
  • Provide education and support to youths and their families on topics such as HIV/AIDS, tobacco use, and healthy relationships.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current on best practices in the field of substance abuse counseling and youth services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Corrections, Education, or a related field.
  • One year of experience working with at-risk youths, preferably in a counseling or social work setting.
  • Certified Juvenile Probation Officer (CJPO) certification within six months of hire, with Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) certification preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and undergo random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing.
Working Conditions

This position requires working with youths who may have committed dangerous or aggressive acts, and the ability to work in an emotionally demanding and stressful environment. The incumbent may be required to work mandatory overtime, remain on duty, or be called back to work at all times.
