About the Role: Chief Buildings is in search of a Lead Structural Design Engineer to enhance our engineering team. This role involves conducting structural assessments and designing frameworks for materials supplied by Chief Buildings, adhering to relevant design standards, building codes, load specifications, and customer agreements. The designs produced must ensure structural integrity while optimizing weight and cost, all within established timelines. The complexity of projects will range from moderate to high, with special tasks assigned based on the Lead Structural Design Engineer's expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute structural design for primary and secondary framing and connections on building projects.
  • Stay updated and proficient in AISC and AISI material specifications, as well as the latest editions of ASCE 7, IBC, the MBMA Building Systems Manual, and MBS software. Knowledge of various local, state, and international building codes is essential.
  • Maintain a high level of computer literacy in design software and other engineering tools, recognized as a super user in one or more applications.
  • Ensure efficient, timely, and clear documentation of engineering designs and communication with builders/customers.
  • Collaborate with drafting teams on shop fabrication and field erection details related to engineering designs.
  • Foster effective communication with all engineering and drafting personnel throughout the design and drafting process.
  • Review and validate drawings prepared by drafting to ensure the engineer's design intent is accurately represented.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Construction Engineering; a Master's degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Degree must be from an ABET-accredited program, qualifying for future professional licensure.
  • Professional Engineer Licensure is required, with licensure in multiple states preferred. Structural Engineer licensure is advantageous.
  • Eight to twelve years of experience in metal building design is essential.
