The Emergency Medical Services Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Emergency Room personnel by executing authorized patient care tasks and procedures under supervision. This position involves participating in the processes of patient admission, transfer, and discharge, providing assistance to patients throughout their stay, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the work environment. The role relies on established protocols to complete tasks effectively while working under close guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care: Successfully performs approved patient treatments and procedures (e.g., Accu-Chek, catheterization, non-medicated enemas) under the supervision of qualified staff, maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor at all times. Responds promptly to patient call lights, assists with personal hygiene and daily living activities (e.g., dressing, mobility) in a considerate manner, and ensures a safe, comfortable, and clean environment for patients, with attention to room cleanliness, ventilation, lighting, and overall patient safety. Actively engages in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes by welcoming patients and their families, orienting them to their surroundings, taking vital signs, and completing necessary documentation efficiently, as evidenced by minimal complaints. Properly manages patient clothing and valuables by accurately documenting and securing items as per protocol. Collaboration & Communication: Effectively handles all incoming phone and intercom communications with courtesy, relaying messages to the appropriate personnel while exercising sound judgment regarding interruptions and paging, as evidenced by minimal complaints. Assists in the respectful identification and care of deceased patients and provides comfort to family members during difficult times. Quality Assurance: Maintains a neat, clean, and organized work area at all times. Ensures adequate inventory levels by preparing and submitting tailored requisitions for supplies and equipment, verifying receipt and distribution of ordered supplies, and ensuring proper completion of requisitions. Guarantees the cleanliness and adequacy of patient linens by consistently maintaining supplies and employing sterile techniques in the preparation of sterile trays for surgical procedures. Additional Duties: Completes other assigned tasks as requested.Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent with Specialized Training Must fulfill one of the following criteria: 1. Nurse Aide Certification, 2. One year of experience in an emergency medical environment, 3. Certified Medical Assistant, or 4. Currently enrolled in a Nursing program Strong Communication, Customer Service, and Organizational Skills. BLS Certification
