In this capacity, you will deliver a high standard of comprehensive pharmaceutical services, utilizing sound judgment grounded in professional, departmental, and organizational principles and standards.
Role Summary
The Inpatient Clinical Pharmacist showcases the essential skills and expertise required to cater to the diverse patient demographics served by the organization, which encompasses neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
Your responsibilities will include providing pharmaceutical care that aligns with departmental and hospital philosophies, mission statements, professional standards, and established policies and procedures, all within an environment that prioritizes patient safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.
It is crucial to observe and adhere to all corporate compliance requirements, promptly communicating any issues to the relevant parties as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Plan.
Key Responsibilities- Fulfill accountabilities and objectives with precision, thoroughness, and punctuality.
- Ensure compliance with corporate and departmental standards, regulations, policies, and procedures, achieving favorable outcomes.
- Prepare and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies as directed by physicians and other authorized prescribers, following established protocols.
- Oversee activities within the IV Room.
- Engage in the provision of clinical services within the department.
- Maintain accurate documentation and accountability records for drug usage and storage.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the orientation and training of pharmacy staff, students, and allied health professionals.
- Demonstrate innovation and creative problem-solving.
- Enhance personal and team development through ongoing education.
- Foster positive and productive working relationships, effectively resolving conflicts and promoting teamwork.
- Provide drug information to patients, physicians, and allied health professionals.
- Assist in improving departmental productivity and operational efficiency.
- Consistently demonstrate a high degree of accuracy.
- Remain vigilant at all times, capable of intervening when questions arise regarding medication orders.
- Possess the ability to significantly impact patient care.
- Provide work direction to other personnel within the department.
- Hold Basic Life Support certification.
- Maintain a current valid pharmacist registration in the State of Illinois.
- Have obtained a professional degree in pharmacy from an ACPE accredited institution (B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D.).
- Two or more years of hospital experience as a registered pharmacist.
- Completion of a PGY-1 rotation.
- Job Type: Full-time (1.0 FTE)
- Shift: Night Shift (on a 7-day rotation)

In this role, you will typically work approximately 40 hours per week, primarily scheduled for the night shift, from approximately 9:30 PM to 7:30 AM, without on-call shifts.
Compliance with The University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial's COVID-19 Vaccination requirement is mandatory as a condition of employment. Proof of vaccination must be provided during the pre-employment process, alongside compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Additionally, a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check are required for all employees prior to hire.
