Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Gastroenterology Technician II to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As a key member of our gastroenterology department, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in endoscopic procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient specimens and perform venipuncture and skin punctures to obtain blood samples.
  • Analyze collected specimens for volume, acidity, or other standard measures.
  • Assist physicians with endoscopic and sigmoidoscopic procedures, including preparing patients and equipment.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests and assist with protocological procedures, such as sigmoid exams.
  • Record and chart patient data, including vital signs and test results.
  • Consult with physicians concerning test results and alert them to positive test results or abnormalities.
  • Transcribe test results onto lab slips and call providers with positive test results.
  • Explain test procedures and purpose to patients and their families.
  • Assist in obtaining tissue specimens and biopsies, and assist with fluoroscopic examinations.
  • Perform ear wash procedures and assist with inserting and advancing scope during GI procedures.
  • Monitor I.V. solutions and ensure equipment is available for procedures and examinations.
  • Adjust equipment in preparation for and during procedures, and check emergency equipment.
  • Prepare procedures and exam rooms, and select and set out appropriate tubings and sterile supplies.
  • Decontaminate equipment and maintain sterilized supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Inventory equipment and supplies, and replenish as needed.
  • Assist in orienting and training new or less experienced personnel, and provide functional direction to assigned staff.
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and in-service training programs to stay up-to-date on the latest procedures and techniques.
Requirements
  • One (1) year experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting assisting in the performance of endoscopic procedures.
  • Vocational Nurse License (California) and Basic Life Support certification.
  • I.V. Certification and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, with a shift of 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and occasional weekend and night call rotation.
