Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Stony Brook University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric services to patients, including assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct monitoring examinations for patients under the supervision of the Director or designee.
  • Provide psychiatric assessments, assist with making diagnoses, and provide referral recommendations.
  • Prescribe psychiatric medications as needed.
  • Provide treatment to patients for WTC-covered conditions, including aero digestive diseases and psychological and social problems.
  • Actively participate in our Collaborative Care Model of healthcare delivery.
  • Make referrals as appropriate to other healthcare providers and/or consult with physicians for further definitive therapy.
  • Perform necessary administrative duties associated with the WTC program.
Requirements
  • A license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
  • A Master's degree in Nursing or a foreign equivalent.
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of practice.
  • One year of clinical experience providing psychiatric services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or a foreign equivalent.
  • Two years of clinical experience in an outpatient program providing psychiatric services in a primary care setting.
  • One year of full-time work experience as a Nurse Practitioner in general internal medicine.
Work Environment

The Stony Brook WTC Health Program offers comprehensive, integrative healthcare of 9/11-related illnesses for WTC disaster responders. The incumbent must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

The incumbent must be willing to work and travel between the Westbury and Commack clinic locations. Occasional evenings and Saturdays will be required.
