Recreation Therapist, Correctional Facility

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing therapeutic recreation programs for patients within our institutions. Your expertise will help patients develop essential life skills, promote physical and emotional well-being, and foster a positive environment for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs for patients, including individual and group activities, to promote physical and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to share assessment information and incorporate therapeutic recreational activities into treatment plans.
- Monitor and document patient progress, providing regular updates to healthcare teams and management.
- Maintain a safe and respectful environment, ensuring the well-being and safety of patients and staff.
- Work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care and support to patients.
- Equivalent to graduation from a recognized college with a major in recreation or recreation therapy, including supervised field work.
- Current certification or eligibility for certification as a recreation therapist by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification or the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Inc.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, staff, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
