We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the Central Virginia Veterans Affairs Health Care System. As a SCI/D Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to our veteran patients with spinal cord injuries and disorders.
Key Responsibilities- Provide prevention, health maintenance, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitative nursing care to patients with SCI/D.
- Participate in interdisciplinary plan of care and wound care rounds.
- Maintain records of wounds, both present on admission and hospital acquired.
- Make recommendations for wound ostomy continence patient needs.
- Provide staff education related to wound ostomy and continence nursing care.
- Provide extensive patient education.
- Participate in telehealth conferences for patients with wound, ostomy, and continence needs.
- Assist in choosing and ordering hospital supplies.
- Participate in biannual prevalence and data collection.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Active wound certification (CWOCN).
- 2-5 years experience in acute care setting, medical-surgical, wound/burn unit, home health care and Spinal Cord Injury experience preferred.
The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
