POSITION SUMMARY
The Surgical Environmental Services Specialist is responsible for executing a range of essential and moderately intricate cleaning duties within designated specialty areas to ensure a safe and welcoming atmosphere for patients, visitors, and healthcare personnel. This role upholds environmental and infection control standards in accordance with established protocols and procedures. Additionally, the Specialist adheres to the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) guidelines for the turnover and terminal cleaning of surgical rooms.
- Engages positively and professionally with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Fosters a supportive work environment and contributes to a collaborative, team-oriented unit to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Responds promptly and courteously to inquiries for assistance from patients, staff, and visitors.
- Quickly addresses all assignments to create a healing-conducive environment, communicating any facility or patient-related concerns to management as necessary.
- Implements efficient room cleaning procedures to ensure timely patient admissions.
- Adheres to departmental protocols for room cleaning and discharge inspections, aiming to meet or exceed cleanliness benchmarks.
- Achieves turnaround times for discharge, daily room cleaning, and assigned areas as required.
- During discharge processes, monitors, logs, and informs management of safety and repair needs for equipment.
- Complies with policies, procedures, and safety regulations, addressing minor safety hazards and observing standard infection control measures in line with OSHA standards.
- Utilizes proper cleaning and maintenance techniques for various floor types with appropriate equipment.
- Collects, transports, and disposes of solid and biohazard waste following established procedures.
- Implements identified cleaning protocols, which may involve specialized equipment, in designated areas (e.g., surgical, procedural, or isolation zones).
- Employs suitable transportation methods for clean or soiled linen and assists in quality assurance by inspecting, identifying, and rejecting substandard linen.
- Effectively uses and stores chemicals, paper products, supplies, and equipment utilized during shifts, reporting and tracking wasteful practices.
- Manages time efficiently and prioritizes daily departmental tasks to minimize incidental overtime.
- Takes responsibility for personal growth and development by participating in continuing education and in-service training. Actively engages in EVS shared governance, meetings, or huddles by contributing ideas to enhance departmental processes.
