Job Summary

The Psychiatric Therapist plays a vital role in our interdisciplinary treatment team, providing psychotherapeutic interventions and case management duties in an acute care inpatient psychiatric setting. This individual will work closely with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct initial discharge planning assessments and make referrals based on patient needs and interdisciplinary team recommendations.
  2. Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and implement treatment plans, documenting patient progress and identifying necessary interventions.
  3. Provide a range of psychotherapeutic interventions, including group, family, and individual therapy, as well as safety planning and PASSR screenings.
  4. Establish and maintain effective communication with family members, parents/guardians, and referral sources, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  5. Coordinate discharge planning services, including aftercare arrangements, communication with outpatient providers, and contact with family members and receiving facilities.
  6. Maintain accurate and concise documentation in patient records, reflecting efforts at discharge planning, patient progress, and family/guardian/referral source contacts.
  7. Assist in evaluating patients suspected of physical abuse, neglect, exploitation, sexual abuse, or emotional abuse, submitting reports to the appropriate authority as needed.
  8. Ensure CPI/MOAB certification and CPR certification as outlined in Decatur Morgan's procedures manual.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling from an accredited college/university.
  • Preferred licensure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and procedures to obtain needed services for patients.
  • Ability to maintain records, obtain accurate social data, and record such data in clear and concise documentation.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric illnesses and their social aspects.
  • Minimum one year experience working with individuals in a mental health setting or an equivalent level of education and experience.
