The Respiratory Care Education Specialist is responsible for the implementation of ongoing educational programs related to respiratory care for healthcare personnel. This role involves coordinating training sessions and clinical rotations for respiratory therapy practitioners.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and establish educational objectives, curriculum, and assessment tools to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Review and enhance educational resources to improve the quality and relevance of training materials.
  • Manage a comprehensive library of audio, video, and written resources for the department.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for the selection, calibration, and upkeep of respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with educational record-keeping standards set by regulatory bodies.
  • Organize and facilitate collaborative efforts among contributors to respiratory care education.
  • Act as a point of contact for outreach educational initiatives.
  • Evaluate and provide education for patients and families to prepare them for home care.
  • Oversee CPR re-certification processes for department personnel.
  • Promote patient safety by planning, delivering, documenting, and assessing orientation for new staff in respiratory care.
  • Conduct evaluations of clinical competencies for all staff involved in respiratory care.
  • Develop metrics to assess the quality of respiratory care services provided.
  • Collaborate with acute care units, operating rooms, transport teams, emergency departments, and outpatient services to facilitate the use of specialized equipment.
  • Organize seminars and manage clinical rotation schedules for respiratory therapy students.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited respiratory therapy program is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a practicing Respiratory Therapist.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • CPR certification in accordance with AHA standards, including both theoretical and practical components.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Valid Osteopathic Respiratory Care or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
  • Compliance with Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance requirements.
