Role of the Registered Nurse in the CCU: The Registered Nurse in the Critical Care Unit provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process in alignment with established standards and practices.

Educational Requirements:

Associate's Degree is mandatory.

Certifications Needed:

· Basic Life Support (BLS) (to be obtained within 6 months of employment)

· Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (to be obtained within 6 months of employment)

· Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (to be obtained within 6 months of employment)

· Handle With Care (HWC) (to be obtained within 6 months of employment)

Licensure:

· Registered Nurse license valid in the State of Kentucky.
*New Graduates may operate under a KY provisional license for a maximum of 6 months, with the expectation of obtaining an RN license within this timeframe.

Essential Skills:

· Executes care plans, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.

· Accurately documents all patient care provided.

· Monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions to the care team, physicians, patients, and families as necessary.

· Assists patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.

· Collaborates across disciplines to ensure coordinated patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial support.

· Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.

· Works with families to enhance patient capabilities and address the challenges of illness.
