Position Overview

The Kansas Federal Public Defender is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Investigative Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our investigative unit, you will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations, gathering evidence, and collaborating with our attorneys to build strong cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and interview witnesses
  • Collaborate with attorneys to develop case strategies and build strong cases
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify patterns and connections
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including law enforcement and community partners
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in investigative work

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as criminology, forensic science, or a related field
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and solve complex problems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience in investigative work, preferably in a federal or state agency
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in investigative work
  • Experience working with diverse populations and communities
