Job Overview

Position Title: Electric Ground Technician

Location: Glasgow, MT

Compensation: $33.55 per hour as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

Employment Type: Seasonal Full-time (layoff anticipated, subject to recall)

Position Summary:

The Electric Ground Technician is responsible for performing a variety of manual labor and equipment operation tasks to support the Lineman team in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of the electrical transmission network. This entry-level role serves as a preparatory step for those interested in pursuing a Lineman Apprenticeship. The Electric Ground Technician may also be required to respond to emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate and understand audible signals in emergency and safety situations to maintain a secure work environment
  • Assist line crews in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of the electric power-line transmission system
  • Adhere to safe practices while working near crews handling potentially hazardous electrified equipment
  • Organize, restock, and conduct basic preventative maintenance on tools, vehicles, and facilities
  • Utilize hand tools and operate heavy machinery for digging ditches and pole holes
  • Be available for overtime, including call-out shifts for evening and weekend emergencies
  • Follow directions from crew members and collaborate as a team to efficiently complete tasks
  • Employ problem-solving skills to anticipate crew equipment needs and identify potential safety hazards
  • Master specific knots and use blocks, tackles, pulleys, and hand lines
  • Adapt to technological advancements as they are introduced
  • Perform regular and preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Engage with the public appropriately to ensure safety on the work site
  • Individually lift equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Comply with company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics
  • Ensure all actions align with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic objectives

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of maintaining a good safety record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification from a recognized pre-apprentice training program is advantageous
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and safety policies/procedures
  • Seeking candidates with a genuine interest and potential for advancement into an apprenticeship
  • Continued employment is contingent upon overall performance and success in progressing into the apprenticeship program
  • Acceptance into an apprenticeship requires the candidate to reside within a designated area for adequate emergency response
