Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Services Technician to join our team at Geisinger Health System. As an Environmental Services Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, surgical suites, clinical areas, office spaces, corridors, and stairwells to ensure a high level of cleanliness and infection control.
  • Handle various waste streams, including municipal waste, recyclable waste, pharmaceutical waste, biohazardous waste, chemotherapeutic waste, and sharps, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Wear personal protective equipment and follow posted isolation precautions when entering isolation rooms.
  • Operate hospital-approved chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Report identified repairs and maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Utilize mobile technology to ensure compliance with bed management procedures and other environmental services functions.
  • Properly dispose of clear bag and red bag waste.
  • Perform and maintain competency in current supplemental cleaning technologies available, as prioritized by Infection Control under the direction of EVS management.
  • Clean and disinfect all equipment before entry into the OR suite.
  • Be familiar with fluid waste management systems and placement in the docking station for proper emptying and sanitizing.
  • Perform weekly detail cleaning of all ORs, including high dusting, wall washing, ceilings, tracks, vents, and lights, booms.
  • Perform scrubbing of floors in all ORs, sub-sterile areas, and scrub sink areas with powered floor care equipment.
  • Collect soiled linen and transport to the hospital staging area for vendor pickup.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred)
  • Certification(s) and License(s) as required by the state and/or facility
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., carry, and push carts from 100 lbs. to 500 lbs. when performing duties
  • Ability to work in a variety of temperature conditions and transport items outside of buildings in all weather conditions
  • Ability to perform job duties correctly with established System EVS standards to facilitate patient throughput
