POSITION HOURS AND COMPENSATION:
This role involves working 3.5 hours daily across 170 days annually.
Additionally, it entails 3.25 hours per day for 141 days each year.
For the initial year, the schedule consists of 7 hours daily for 4 days, followed by 2 days each subsequent year until certification is achieved.

Salary: Level 5 on the PSE Salary Schedule - $ (refer to PSE SALARY SCHEDULE).

Required Training:
The selected candidate must complete Right Response Training within 3-5 months of employment.

*Certification Requirements:
Successful completion of the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and the General Paraeducator Certificate as mandated by the state. The Paraeducator Certificate Program is subject to state funding availability.

IMPORTANT: To qualify for an interview for this instructional paraeducator role, candidates must meet the following federal minimum employment criteria:
Must be at least 18 years old; Possess a high school diploma or equivalent; And one of the following: Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment, hold an AA degree or higher, earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited institution, completed a registered apprenticeship program through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries, or successfully finished The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.

TB Testing:
Proof of a passing TB (tuberculosis) test is required prior to official employment.

JOB OVERVIEW:
The responsibilities of this position include assisting the instructor with various activities for students, such as meal preparation and cleanup, providing individual or small group instruction, monitoring and correcting student behavior, and supervising student activities in diverse settings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide individual or small group instruction in various learning activities, including family-style meals to enhance understanding of the presented materials. Offer encouragement and support to achieve educational objectives set by the instructor.

2. Communicate with the instructor regarding individual student progress; adapt methods to cater to a diverse range of student needs; collaborate with the instructor on remediation or enrichment activities.

3. Assist the instructor in maintaining accurate records, logs, charts, and assignments for assessing student progress.

4. Supervise student behavior in classrooms, during lunch and snack times, at bus boarding areas, on field trips, and in other assigned locations to ensure safe and appropriate conduct. Correct behaviors and uphold discipline in accordance with established policies.

5. Support students in mastering interpersonal and personal skills.

6. Establish effective communication with students, staff, and parents regarding student progress and safety, and foster community relations.

7. Provide assistance to special needs students, including physical support and personal hygiene assistance.

8. Manage food setup, preparation, service, and cleanup, including washing dishes and laundry.

9. May accompany the instructor on home visits to students, documenting observations as needed.

10. Monitor students for potential first aid needs and refer for treatment as necessary.

11. Participate in various meetings and training sessions.

12. Assist in maintaining records, attendance, meal counts, and budget adjustments to comply with local and ESD program requirements.

13. Maintain daily documentation of students' transportation information as per program requirements.

14. Collaborate as a member of the instructional team to develop and implement programs and services for eligible children and families.

15. May have flexible hours to participate in family and community activities related to the program.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

16. Alert qualified district staff to student issues.

17. Prepare and modify materials for student use and enrichment activities under the direction of the assigned instructor.

18. Manage the preparation, duplication, collation, and distribution of materials; operate various office equipment.

19. Maintain the physical appearance of the classroom and other assigned areas; manage playground equipment and supplies.

20. Provide backup support in the classroom as needed; handle telephone inquiries and file materials.

21. May serve on district committees or departmental work teams, modeling appropriate behavior and maintaining confidentiality.

22. Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.


REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Reports to the Director of Special Services and receives guidance from assigned certificated staff.

MENTAL DEMANDS:
This role may involve frequent interruptions and requires dealing with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities, including physical or emotional disabilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Potential exposure to infectious diseases, student noise levels, and the need to lift and position students. This role may require prolonged standing and outdoor supervision in various weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to fulfill the role, with a preference for one year of experience in an early childhood setting. Candidates must possess a current CDA or an Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate that meets or exceeds CDA requirements, or an AA/BA/MA in any field with 12 ECE credits.


Allowable Substitutions:

A high school diploma or GED with one year of experience in an early childhood setting is preferred.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and communication. Ability to engage with students in a warm and confident manner, remain flexible to changes in assignments, organize activities, and follow instructions. Maintain confidentiality and establish effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.


Licenses/Special Requirements:

Fingerprinting and background checks are required to ensure no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury, or neglect of a minor. Training in and adherence to the district infection control plan is mandatory. First aid and CPR certification, along with a Washington State food handlers' permit, are required.
