Job Overview

The Senior Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for patients, families, and healthcare staff. This position is dedicated to ensuring patient safety and delivering exceptional customer service while upholding cleanliness standards within the surgical unit.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct thorough terminal cleaning of all operating room areas in compliance with AORN Standards.

2. Coordinate with maintenance for necessary repairs and ensure that supplies are stocked according to established protocols.

3. Execute proper cleaning and maintenance of essential surgical equipment, including arthroscopy pumps, fluoroscopy beds, and overhead tables.

4. Maintain an orderly and efficient work environment by performing the following tasks:

Cleaning utility areas, hallways, restrooms, equipment, and storage areas.

Promote and ensure patient and unit safety by:

1. Positioning beds, stretchers, and carts appropriately for patient safety.

2. Implementing infection control measures, including proper hand hygiene and adherence to isolation protocols, while ensuring the unit remains clean and free of unnecessary equipment.

3. Identifying and reporting safety hazards, and being knowledgeable about the locations of fire alarms and extinguishers.

4. Understanding and applying sterile techniques as necessary.

Responsibilities also include:

1. Upholding patient safety at all times.

2. Cleaning patient rooms and handling discharges as needed.

3. Demonstrating knowledge of all Environmental Services chemicals and procedures.

4. Delivering outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Routine floor maintenance includes:

1. Being trained in the operation and upkeep of floor cleaning machines and technologies.

2. Following established procedures for mopping and maintaining hard surface corridors.

Confidentiality is paramount:

1. Adhering to hospital policies and federal regulations regarding patient confidentiality.

2. Participating in annual training on Safety and Confidentiality.

Basic Computer Skills:

1. Ability to learn and utilize MS Office Outlook for communication.

2. Successfully completing required annual training assessments.

Communication and Cooperation:

1. Performing additional duties as assigned, demonstrating teamwork and attending unit meetings as required.

2. Adhering to professional standards in appearance and conduct, including dress code compliance and consistent behavior aligned with core values.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Candidates should possess specialized knowledge and skills necessary for the role, including:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or G.E.D preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital environment is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Basic reading, writing, and math skills are essential.

Customer service skills in a healthcare setting are necessary.

Familiarity with computers is preferred but not mandatory.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

OR Tech Certification is required, with successful completion of training and testing.

CHEST certification is preferred within one year of employment.
