Job Summary

We are seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Vectrus. This role will perform risk analysis and check for fire hazards, develop fire protection strategies, consult on technical requirements for code adherence, and prepare and maintain fire safety systems.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work with other engineers and management to report all issues and fix any potential problems. Key responsibilities include providing engineering review, coordination, and oversight of operations and maintenance, repair, and construction work, overseeing and coordinating activities with trade shops, and developing cost estimates, documents, and reports.

  • Provide engineering review, coordination, and oversight of operations and maintenance, repair, and construction work.
  • Oversee and coordinate activities with trade shops, including prioritization of work, review of ongoing projects, and inspection of installed equipment.
  • Develop cost estimates, documents, and reports.
  • Coordinate energy program and analyze utility costs.
  • Provide after-hours engineering services in the event of an emergency.
  • Manage project design and/or construction efforts, to include schedule, funding, and day-to-day project oversight.
  • Manage and evaluate construction contractor performance.
  • Integrate and coordinate projects with field personnel.
  • Evaluate, validate, and manage project change requests.
  • Provide official weekly project status reports.
  • Prepare and distribute project communication with customers, management, integrated project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Assist the client's Contracting Officer (CO) and Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) with acquisition planning, execution, and administration.
  • Assist the CO and COTR with conducting pre-bid and pre-construction site visits with the COTR.
  • Provide invoice supporting information to the COTR for payment.
  • Prepare and monitor project schedules and budgets; provide technical guidance and assistance on contracting and construction-related issues; direct design efforts; recommend construction documents for approval; and provide oversight of any follow-on maintenance programs.
  • Optimize performance, cost, and schedule by ensuring project objectives are achieved on schedule and at the lowest cost compatible with user requirements.
  • Conduct design reviews with the customer.
  • Ensure timely input of all data, comments, and documentation into MAXIMO software project management tool. This requirement applies to all projects, work orders, and tasks across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure integration of all systems, including information technology, telephone, security, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
  • Prepare Contractor Performance Report (CPR) upon contract closeout.
  • Design fire detection and elimination equipment and procedures.
  • Design of plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial interior projects.
  • Stay current on fire protection understanding through professional literature and conferences.
  • Act as fire protection expert for governmental authorities and policy makers.
  • Provide engineering support for senior engineering staff.
  • Create plans, schematics, equipment selection, calculations, systems narratives, specifications, system design and layout, field investigation, and construction administration.
  • Perform design work in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to perform site evaluations.
  • Attend project meetings.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Bachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering or BS in related Engineering discipline and five (5) years fire protection engineering experience in a similar field may be substituted for degree requirement. Clearance: Must have a current, adjudicated, and active TS-SCI w/Poly. Experience: The application of fire protection engineering concepts, building construction, NFPA codes and standards, especially NFPA 1, 13, 14, 17, 20, 25, 30, 45, 72, 96A, 101, 801, and 2001, International Building and Fire Codes (IBC/IFC), and ES&H requirements associated with fire protection program implementation. Performing fire protection and life safety plan reviews of new construction and facility modifications, negotiating with project leaders, programmatic/user organizations, and design agencies to achieve successful resolution of outstanding fire protection and life safety issues, performing construction inspection and approval, and observing and documenting facility and fire protection and life safety system/feature commissioning. Significant experience with regulatory compliance for facility plans (blueprints), drawings, and related design documentation, such as hydraulic calculations, fire alarm system battery calculations, clean agent design calculations, through-penetration fire stop system engineering judgments, etc.

Salary Information

The estimated annual salary range for this position is between $95,000 and $145,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
