Position Overview:
The Healthcare Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the billing and accounts receivable processes for medical claims. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of billing guidelines, coding practices, and reimbursement methodologies to ensure precise and timely billing and collections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Billing and Coding:
Generate and submit accurate claims to insurance providers. Assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to services rendered. Review and rectify claim rejections and denials through the clearinghouse. - Accounts Receivable Management:
Monitor and follow up on unpaid claims and outstanding balances. Identify and resolve billing issues, disputes, and discrepancies promptly. Appeal claims with insurance companies based on specific denial reasons. - Insurance Verification and Eligibility:
Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility. Update patient insurance information in the billing system and communicate changes to relevant departments. - Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure adherence to billing guidelines, HIPAA regulations, and other pertinent laws. Prepare and submit regular billing, financial, and productivity reports to management.
Education and Training:
High School Diploma (college degree preferred). An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, medical billing, or a related field is preferred.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a healthcare setting. Proficiency in multitasking within a fast-paced environment. Strong computer skills, meticulous attention to detail, and confident professional communication are essential. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems is advantageous.
