Position Summary:

The Senior Systems Engineer embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adhering to our Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program while complying with all relevant policies and regulatory standards.

This role is crucial for maintaining the operational integrity of hardware systems, their operating systems, and connectivity capabilities within the Northwestern Medicine Health System's IT framework. The Senior Systems Engineer will monitor, assess, and plan necessary upgrades to ensure sufficient capacity and availability to meet user demands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Maintain a strong technical foundation for assigned services and systems, understanding the integration of all supported services.
    • Provide technical leadership and support for computing systems and their integration.
    • Conduct performance and capacity analyses to ensure system reliability.
    • Possess a comprehensive understanding of NMHC IT server and distributed systems.
    • Utilize diagnostic skills to coordinate problem resolution across the NMHC IT environment.
  • Customer Engagement:
    • Respond promptly to customer needs, managing relationships and ensuring issue resolution.
    • Support application teams with project and support activities.
    • Communicate effectively with project teams to align on goals and objectives.
    • Understand the business and clinical processes within NMHC.
  • Communication:
    • Communicate clearly and purposefully with customers and team members.
    • Develop strong relationships with users and IS team members to enhance technology solutions.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Support system-to-network connectivity to ensure stable integration.
    • Review technology projects, analyze requirements, and recommend system changes.
    • Develop project plans to guide technology activities.
    • Collaborate with project managers to define project scope and timelines.
  • Professional Development:
    • Integrate vendor and technical knowledge into NMHC.
    • Mentor team members and enhance skills aligned with IS direction.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Promote teamwork and collaborative efforts.
    • Adapt to changing priorities and contribute to the IS Knowledge Repository.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • On-call support may be required.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role within the healthcare sector.
