Position Overview

The Certified Respiratory Care Specialist we are looking for will serve as a vital advocate for patients, ensuring their compliance with prescribed therapies. This role involves assisting clients with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices and related supplies in a professional and welcoming manner. The Specialist will collaborate closely with healthcare providers, patients, and internal teams to deliver top-notch products and services while adhering to all relevant legal, industry, and organizational standards.

This position offers a flexible full-time schedule, with a Monday through Friday workweek, no on-call duties, and no weekend shifts. Additionally, there is minimal expectation for overtime, with the added benefit of every other Friday off. Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate patient setups by providing respiratory equipment, ensuring proper mask fittings and necessary supplies.
  • Adhere to prescribed orders, dispensing suitable respiratory equipment tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to secure appropriate prescriptions for patients, fostering strong relationships with various referral sources.
  • Conduct follow-ups with patients and healthcare providers regarding equipment usage and adherence.
  • Maintain accurate patient records with relevant information and notes.
  • Test and ensure the safety and functionality of equipment, coordinating repairs or warranty replacements as needed.
  • Manage inventory levels effectively and place orders as required.
  • Provide in-service training to hospital staff and discharging patients regarding respiratory equipment prior to discharge. (If RT)
  • Perform oxygen assessments, with physician consent, to aid in patient mobility and equipment longevity. Assist patients and staff in selecting the most beneficial equipment. (If RT)
  • Address customer concerns with professionalism, maintaining a calm and courteous demeanor.
  • Comply with all legal and organizational standards, including HIPAA regulations, safety protocols, and break/lunch policies.
  • Deliver quality work promptly and efficiently.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, fostering a positive work environment through open communication.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain all necessary credentials to meet licensing requirements, and coordinate with management for opportunities to obtain required CEU hours.
  • Stay informed about technological advancements in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 35 lbs repeatedly. Lifting from floor to counter and pushing/pulling 50 lbs on a hand cart.
  • Engage in walking, lifting, reaching, and stooping, with or without assistive devices.
  • A physical examination and a physician's statement confirming the ability to perform job duties are required upon employment.
Work Environment
  • The role will be performed in a retail store setting during working hours.
  • The typical noise level in this environment is generally low to moderate.
Educational Qualifications

The Professional Licensing Division for the State of Iowa mandates specific criteria for this position, requiring a Licensed Clinician for certain job functions. Therefore, candidates must possess:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed Health Care Provider (RRT, CRT, LPN, RN) – completion of an accredited healthcare program (or)
  • Licensed Health Care Provider (RPSGT, RST) - completion of an accredited healthcare program
Experience Requirements
  • Proficient in technology and software applications, with a working knowledge of common office equipment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both in-person and over the phone, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Capable of presenting information and responding to inquiries from management, healthcare providers, patients, and the public.
  • Strong customer service skills and a willingness to assist customers with inquiries.
  • Organizational skills to manage several projects concurrently, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the community.
  • Ability to type with minimal errors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with respiratory Home Medical Equipment (DME), particularly CPAP devices.
  • Experience with Brightree billing/operating software is advantageous.
  • Background in cash handling is preferred.
  • Experience working with insurance benefits and healthcare providers is highly desirable.
  • Experience in a retail environment is a plus.
