Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is seeking a skilled Medical Lab Technician to join our team. As a Medical Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in the laboratory team, responsible for organizing and performing patient testing, ensuring quality results, and maintaining efficient laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient testing and ensure quality results through the collection and analysis of samples, use of control materials, and proper instrument maintenance.
- Recognize abnormal results and take appropriate actions, utilizing available resources to maintain and fix instruments or problem solve issues.
- Maintain current knowledge and skills through continuing education or professional organizations.
- Demonstrate competence in automated systems and perform basic troubleshooting of system problems.
- Order and maintain inventory of testing supplies and recognize opportunities for improvements in financial performance.
- May be required to perform basic phlebotomy and may be responsible for hiring, training, and directing the workflow for department staff.
Qualifications
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course or a recognized MLT program with MLT/ASCP certification or equivalent.
Demonstrates highly developed interpersonal skills, proficiency in basic computer skills, and excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science and applicable laboratory experience.
