About the Role

Atlanta Healthcare Services Inc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Technologist to join our team in the Atlanta METRO area.

Job Responsibilities
  • As a Surgical Technologist, you will serve as a scrub person for basic surgical procedures and participate in complex surgical procedures as needed.
  • You will follow department procedures for scrub persons by assembling surgical packs, supplies, and instruments for surgical cases and preparing the operating room for surgery.
  • Inspection of instruments and power equipment prior to use is essential to ensure operational order, and you will troubleshoot, report, and remove faulty instruments and equipment from service.
  • You will assure an adequate amount of appropriate supplies and instrumentation are available in accordance with the surgeon's preference and count all instruments, needles, and sponges with the registered nurse according to procedure.
  • Inventories and monitors instruments, sponges, and needles on the operative field using department count procedures.
  • You will adjust instrumentation and supplies to changes in procedures and patient condition.
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting blood and fluid loss during cases.
  • Ascertain the correctness of the count prior to closure of body cavities and surgical wounds. Assist the circulating nurse with restocking the room at the end of the shift.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs and assist by draping patients, holding/passing instruments, retractors, sutures, and medications, applying surgical dressings, suctioning and sponging surgical wounds, holding extremities, and moving patients.
  • Recognize and report emergency situations.
  • Adjust priorities and participate in resolving problems as appropriate.
  • Assist in identification, labeling, and proper specimen disposition using departmental procedures.
  • Perform or assist in sterile preps as needed/requested by monitoring aseptic techniques of surgical team members at the field, reporting and correcting breaks in sterile technique immediately, and controlling the location of contaminated instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain appropriate quantities of surgical supplies and equipment by restocking the room with necessary equipment and supplies and apprise the supervisor of special requests for surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with decontamination of all equipment, instruments, and supplies as necessary and assist with cleaning rooms, furniture, and equipment according to established procedures.
Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in surgical technology from an accredited school or two (2) years of experience in a directly related area.
  • A valid state Surgical Technologist license.
  • Certification is voluntary but highly recommended for surgical technicians. The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) offers the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
