Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Journey Line Worker to join our team at FirstEnergy. As a Journey Line Worker, you will be responsible for building and maintaining electric power systems, restoring electric service to customers, and performing various tasks related to transmission and distribution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test, frame, and set poles; climb poles, work in confined spaces; splice and terminate cables
  • Hang and energize transformers; take voltage readings; troubleshoot problems and determine extent of repairs on primary and secondary overhead or underground dead legs
  • Install and replace equipment, meters, and streetlights; operate hydraulic equipment, including drills, boom trucks, diggers, pole tamers, hydraulic jacks, and bucket trucks
  • Operate lift equipment, such as aerial lifts and line truck booms; operate forklift to load and unload work materials and supplies
  • Travel by vehicle, motor boat, or off-road utility vehicle (OUV) to access job sites; may drive a Class A vehicle (i.e., bucket truck and line truck) to and from the job site
Requirements
  • Completion of a federal or state-sanctioned line worker apprenticeship with approved supporting documentation (e.g., IBEW Journeyman Lineman A Ticket) and/or union or union-affiliated sponsored line worker apprenticeship
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with electric utility or a utility lines construction contractor
  • Valid Class A driving permit by first day of employment; passed a DMV medical exam by first day of employment
  • Ability to wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to work and drive in all types of weather and road conditions; capable of working extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
