Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Auditor to join our team at the City of Miami Beach, FL. As a Tax Auditor, you will be responsible for performing auditing work of resort tax accounts, ensuring compliance with departmental regulations and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain corporate information, copies of business tax receipts, and other pertinent information on auditees.
  • Prepare audit request letters and follow up to schedule audit appointments.
  • Conduct field visits to business locations to obtain and verify audit information in compliance with pertinent City Code provisions.
  • Perform audits of businesses' accounting books and records either in City offices or off-site.
  • Discuss any unusual findings with superiors during the audit process.
  • Analyze businesses' payment histories, complete audit work papers, and prepare draft reports of findings for supervisors.
  • Attend meetings with auditees or their representatives.
  • Communicate results of audits both verbally and in writing to superiors and auditees.
  • Defend findings when needed against disputing auditees.
  • Assist in the office as needed by answering customer inquiries and helping with various assigned administrative tasks.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, Public Administration, or Business Administration.
  • One (1) year of auditing experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as word processors, calculators, and copiers.
  • Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to drive an automobile and perform on-site inspections at locations that may not be accessible to the physically handicapped.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press, the general public, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.
