Job Overview

The Intermediate Healthcare Provider plays a vital role in delivering medical care under the supervision of a licensed physician. This position involves performing patient assessments, prescribing medications, and offering a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. The provider is expected to attend relevant departmental and organizational meetings as required.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree along with successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or a Bachelor's degree with completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Supervision by a licensed physician is required.
  • Possession of a valid state license as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is necessary.
  • If authorized to prescribe controlled substances, a Texas Department of Public Safety Controlled Substances Permit and a DEA certificate are required.
Responsibilities and Scope of Practice

Nurse Practitioner Duties:

  • Recognizing that the scope of practice may differ among advanced practice registered nurses, it is essential to adhere to individual professional standards.

Physician Assistant Duties:

  • The Physician Assistant may operate in various settings aligned with the collaborating physician's practice areas, functioning within their population-focused scope of practice.
  • The scope of practice is defined by the PA's qualifications through education, clinical training, certification, and experience, as per Texas Medical Board regulations.
Direct Patient Care Responsibilities Include:
  • Conducting examinations, diagnosing, and treating medical conditions; prescribing medications and tests; interpreting test results; and maintaining communication with physicians regarding patient care.
  • Contributing to the development and periodic review of patient care policies.
  • Engaging in weekly reviews of patient health records with the supervising physician.
  • Ensuring thorough documentation and organization of patient records, conducting monthly audits, and providing training as necessary.
  • Participating in the formulation and implementation of clinic policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining clinic presence during the supervising physician's absence to ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhering to the policies of Cogdell Memorial Hospital Rural Health Clinic.
  • Engaging in Quality Improvement initiatives for the clinic.
  • Being an active member of the Professional Advisory Group.
  • Attending mandatory departmental meetings.
  • Adjusting work hours to meet departmental needs.
  • Being knowledgeable about Emergency Disaster Plans and appropriate responses.
  • Collaborating effectively with colleagues and demonstrating leadership and teaching capabilities.
  • Exhibiting a commitment to a healthcare team focused on optimal patient care.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

  • Skill in educating patients and families in an accessible manner.
  • Proficiency in gathering and analyzing patient data.

  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to adapt to changes and support new technologies positively.

  • Physical capability to lift and carry weights of 51-100 lbs.
