Senior Engineering Manager

As a key member of the Marriott team, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant with a focus on safety, security, and asset protection. This role will oversee the management of the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. The ideal candidate will develop and implement strategies to deliver exceptional products and services that meet or exceed the needs and expectations of guests and employees while maximizing financial performance.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with 6 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related field. Technical training in HVAC-R, Electrical, and Plumbing is also required. Alternatively, a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major, with 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related field, is also acceptable.
Core Work Activities
The Director of Engineering will be responsible for managing engineering operations and budgets, including working with the property and regional engineering leadership team to determine how Engineering is performing against budget and highlighting areas of concern to leadership. The role will also involve managing the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Additionally, the Director will administer service contracts to support property needs, ensure fire crew understanding of procedures, equipment, and alarms, and coach and support engineering leadership to effectively manage controllable expenses.
Maintaining Engineering Standards
The Director of Engineering will ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations, maintain property life safety systems, ensure building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current, and ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
Managing Profitability
The Director will manage areas of operation to budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports. They will also monitor and manage the payroll function, manage department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals, participate in the development of department's capital expenditure goals, and manage projects as needed. Additionally, the Director will prepare weekly and period-end P&L critiques, understand the impact of department's operation on overall property financial goals, and educate staff on details as appropriate.
Conducting Human Resources Activities
The Director of Engineering will ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably, ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures, and utilize employee feedback and an 'open door' policy to identify and address employee problems or concerns in a timely manner. They will also celebrate successes by publicly recognizing the contributions of team members, resolve guest problems and complaints, bring issues to the attention of Human Resources as necessary, and ensure regular on-going communication takes place throughout the engineering operation to communicate daily operations activities, set expectations, and create awareness of business objectives.
