Job Description

As a Senior Manager, Hardware Development, you will play a critical role in driving the development of our next-generation low power tracking solution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and verify end-to-end system requirements and develop hardware, including integration with cloud platforms.
  • Provide technical and strategic leadership to transition innovative concepts and ideas towards commercial realization.
  • Implement processes to improve early vetting of concepts and increase the predictability of the product development pipeline.
  • Work closely with consultants, vendors, and contract manufacturers for timely delivery.
  • Align resources and perform critical review of technical data produced by the group, ensuring consistent execution against R&D program/project goals and objectives.
  • Build and foster subject matter expertise within the organization in key areas of advanced sensors and connectivity technologies.
  • Develop and track detailed specifications, project plans, resource assignments & schedules in conjunction with Engineering, Product Management, and Executive staff.
  • Timely delivery of software and hardware for edge devices and integration on the cloud platform, monitoring the scrum team through regular reporting.
  • Vendor, supplier, and engineering management.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the team to high performance, building agile/scrum-based improvement plans and tracking the implementation and success of those improvements.
  • Manage project schedules and workflow with software engineering team, using dependency management and planning techniques.
Measures of Success
  • Timely delivery of hardware edge devices and integration on the cloud platform.
  • Vendor, supplier, and engineering management.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during bring up, production, and operations.

  • People decisions relating to key areas such as hiring, dismissals, and performance management/employee relations issues, project involvement.
  • Program problems, decisions, conflict resolutions.
  • Setting annual objectives and targets.

  • Working in a matrix environment.
  • Working remotely across multiple time zones.
Challenges
  • Extremely advanced analytical skills and technical comprehension of digital devices will be required for this position, as well as strong business acumen and management skills.
Key Contacts

Internal: Platform Engineering team, project managers, developers, strategy and architecture teams, infrastructure, design teams, etc. This will include Directors, VP's, CIO, manager, and employees.

External: External user groups, software vendors, contractors, and their firms, other companies using our tools, and possibly customers.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering Science with related experience in hardware development.
Experience
  • 7+ years' leadership experience leading, managing, or influencing multiple functions, geographies, and stakeholders (ideally in a Global Digital Program). Experience managing a large, multi-cultural, diverse team.
  • Significant previous experience creating and leading cross-functional and multi-country business change programs.
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics, statistics, and approaches to solving business challenges using data.
  • Experience of managing a portfolio of programs and initiatives within a matrix structure, creating/delivering customer value propositions, and leading technology-related programs.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Thorough, in-depth knowledge of MCU-based controller design.

Knowledge of communication protocols: TCP/IP; UDP, I2C, SPI, UART, I2S, PCM.

  • Experience with sensors, accelerometers, gyro, GPS, temperature.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, LTE-M1, NB-IoT, is a plus.
  • Proven track record in managing engineering teams and external contractors.
