Job Title:
Speech Language Pathologist Countywide

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instructional and therapeutic services to students in the district schools, with a focus on meeting the needs of students with Speech and/or Language impairments.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Screen and evaluate students to determine eligibility for Speech-Language services and appropriate service delivery models.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and individualized education program (IEP) meetings to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations.
  • Develop and write comprehensive evaluation reports, re-evaluation reports, and IEPs in a timely manner.
  • Schedule students effectively to receive speech-Language services.
  • Provide individual, group, and classroom therapeutic services to students with Speech/Language disorders to support academic needs.
  • Utilize best practices, curriculum materials, and teaching methods to plan lessons.
  • Provide therapy in areas such as articulation, phonology, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice disorders, pragmatics, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and dysphagia.
  • Program and maintain augmentative communication devices for caseload students.
  • Participate in trials for augmentative devices, maintain data, and assist in determining AAC devices.
  • Attend scheduled dysphagia evaluations and disseminate information to school personnel.
  • Provide ongoing training to school staff on best practices in dysphagia.
  • Monitor student progress and prepare progress reports and other mandated paperwork.
  • Complete ACCESS billing for specific students.
  • Maintain complete working files of student records, including state-mandated forms.
  • Ensure student confidentiality and protect student data in accordance with HIPAA/FERPA regulations and AIU policy.
  • Complete programmatic paperwork, including calendars, schedules, rosters, and statistical reports.
  • Prepare and maintain an inventory of instructional materials, diagnostic assessments, and technological equipment.
  • Maintain Act 48 hours and ASHA CEUs to ensure certification standards.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and follow AIU policies, building procedures, and Pennsylvania professional code of conduct.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers and manage support staff effectively.
  • Utilize email, Microsoft Office programs, and student information systems to manage communication and records.
Qualifications

Valid PA Certification in Special Education, Speech and Language Impaired K-12 required. Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology required. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) of the American Speech-Language Association or Clinical Fellowship Year option in Speech Pathology preferred. Experience working with the school-age population preferred. Ability to comply with AIU Conduct Policy.

Additional Requirements:

  • Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR clearances required prior to hire date.
  • School Personnel Health Record (Form H) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

When performing activities throughout the day related to the education of students, the teacher spends the majority of the day sitting/walking to and from classrooms.

Working with students may entail kneeling or squatting, stooping and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to frequent basis.

The teacher must see and hear on a continuous basis as well as speak frequently. Positions may vary from standing, sitting or walking. On a rare occasion it may be necessary to move quickly, or run.

The teacher must have manual dexterity to use office equipment, manipulate books and other learning materials, and assist students with various activities.

The teacher must have repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding.

  • Be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to bend or twist at the neck and back.
  • Specific vision includes peripheral vision, close vision, and color vision.
