Pediatric Triage Nurse Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Pediatric Triage Nurse to join our team at Kids Health First. As a Pediatric Triage Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and triage services to pediatric patients over the phone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' needs and identify symptoms.
  • Determine emergencies and decide if physician interaction is required.
  • Administer medication injections and vaccines as needed.
  • Conduct preventative screenings and assist support staff in daily patient interactions.
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment, including taking histories and vital signs.
  • Follow standing order procedures as indicated by practice.
  • Perform routine blood drawing procedures and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Maintain patient files, records, and other information.
  • Perform quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing.
  • Firm grasp of medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies.
  • Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods of time and talk and hear. Some standing is required as well as walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stretching, and climbing stairs. This position requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.

The ability to observe details at close range and communicate information and ideas so others will understand. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and work in an environment that can be very stressful. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
