Department: Sheriff's Office - Jail
The Role
This recruitment may create a list to fill regular full-time and/or part-time positions at the Sheriff's Office Adult Detention Facility as they arise. Employees in this role receive a 3% retention increase in base pay after 5 years of service and an additional 2% increase after 10 years.
Key Responsibilities
Under general supervision, the primary duty is to uphold facility security and ensure the welfare of individuals in custody within the correctional environment. Responsibilities include:
- Supervising the security and behavior of individuals in custody during various activities such as meals, recreation, and visitations.
- Responding to requests from individuals in custody, managing the distribution of mail and supplies.
- Escorting individuals throughout the facility and maintaining accurate logs of movements.
- Processing bookings and discharges of individuals, including running warrant checks and maintaining records.
- Transporting individuals to and from various locations as required.
- Maintaining and accounting for personal property of individuals in custody.
- Conducting searches for contraband and ensuring sanitation and safety within the facility.
- Promoting positive behavior and assisting individuals in adjusting to confinement.
- Performing specialized duties as assigned, including training and risk assessments.
- Reporting incidents and assisting medical personnel in emergencies.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver's License; completion of required training within specified timeframes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of methods for managing individuals in custody.
- Knowledge of first aid techniques and applicable laws.
- Proficiency in recordkeeping and report preparation.
Mental and Physical Abilities:
Ability to maintain discipline, make quick decisions in emergencies, and perform physical tasks as needed.
