Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating patient care, utilizing clinical judgment based on nursing skills acquired through formal and informal experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines. They will develop an appropriate plan of care for each patient, promoting comfort and ensuring that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights, and guest relations.

As a member of our interdisciplinary team, the PICU nurse will collaborate with physicians, families, and other healthcare professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Patient Assessment and Planning: Globally assess patient situations, developing plans of care that promote comfort and meet standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights, and guest relations.
  • Care Coordination: Oversee care delivered by patient care teams, coordinate plans of care, and ensure seamless transitions.
  • Education and Facilitation: Provide education and facilitate learning for patients, families, and patient care teams, demonstrating sensitivity to diversity and individual differences.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with physicians, families, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective plans of care.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • A current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
  • BLS certification approved by the American Heart Association.
  • PALS/NRP/ACLS certifications (department-specific requirements).
  • Effective April 20, 2020, new employees must obtain PACES certification within 6 months of hire, and existing employees must obtain PACES certification upon expiration of their PEARS certification (no later than April 20, 2022).
  • In some service areas, initial Pediatric Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviors (PPMAB) training must be renewed annually 60 days prior to expiration.

Salary Information
