POSITION SUMMARY:

The Extrusion Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the daily operations of the extrusion production areas during the blue night shift. Typical working hours are from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., following a rotating 3/2/2 schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, inspire, and assess the performance of team leads and operators during the shift.
  • Oversee agglomeration processes and maintenance activities during the shift.
  • Ensure compliance with Balchem Corporation's policies and relevant regulations.
  • Provide training to operators on equipment and processes, including cookers, dryers, extruders, and quality assurance testing.
  • Enforce safety and security protocols, taking appropriate actions when necessary, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Manage inventory and ingredient usage, ensuring timely and accurate completion of paperwork.
  • Monitor product quality to align with company standards and report any deviations to the Extrusion Manager.
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement while achieving operational goals.
  • Develop and manage the extrusion production team effectively.
  • Adhere to all company policies regarding personnel, safety, and equipment maintenance.
  • Gain proficiency in production and safety procedures, including emergency protocols and equipment operation.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) with two to three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience in manufacturing is essential; experience in food manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational, time management, documentation, and communication skills are required.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively are crucial.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, including punctuality and reliability.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), with a focus on quality and process orientation.
  • Ability to apply common sense and skills in executing responsibilities and operating equipment in line with company procedures.
  • Capability to read and understand instructions and effectively communicate in various situations.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and 5S tools; Six Sigma training is a plus.
  • A mindset geared towards training and mentoring with a strong emphasis on safety.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and support team members across all shifts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, and use stairs or ladders.
  • Frequently required to use hands for handling or operating tools and controls.
  • May need to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is performed in a production environment with moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Exposure to machine noise and food dust is common.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and various chemicals.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration and risk of electric shock.
  • Frequent use of lifts and working at heights for inspection and maintenance.
  • Production environment may include varying temperatures and moisture levels.
