We are excited to announce an opportunity for a cardiac anesthesia specialist to become a vital part of our esteemed team at Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC). As a member of our department, you will collaborate with two cardiac fellowship-trained anesthesiologists and work closely with our skilled cardiothoracic surgeons. Your expertise will be essential in managing a variety of complex cases, including bypass surgeries, valve repairs, aortic aneurysm repairs, TAVRs, and thoracic procedures (including robotic VATS). Most cardiothoracic cases are conducted by MDs, with some thoracic cases utilizing a care team model. Cardiac call responsibilities typically involve pager coverage every third week.


In addition to cardiothoracic cases, our cardiac anesthesiologists also contribute to the general operating rooms, collaborating with six general anesthesiologists and 18 certified registered nurse anesthetists. The range of surgeries includes orthopedics, vascular, general, plastics, gynecology, urology, and ENT, with a focus on pediatric cases. Strong regional anesthesia skills are essential, and our labor and delivery unit handles approximately 800 deliveries annually.


Operating hours are from 7 AM to 4:30 PM, with the on-call physician being relieved first. Weeknight call spans from 3 PM to 7 AM, while weekend call is a 24-hour commitment. Our cardiac anesthesiologists typically take call about once a month.
