Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Lifespan. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting pharmacists in the formulation, preparation, and dispensing of medications and pharmaceutical supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of medications, including reviewing medication orders and preparing medications for review and dispensing.
  • Operate the electronic drug dispensing system (EDDS) to manage inventory and distribution of pharmaceuticals and related supplies.
  • Maintain operating room medication inventory, including controlled substances.
  • Prepare intravenous admixtures, including chemotherapy, critical care infusions, and pediatric infusions, using aseptic techniques in a controlled environment.
  • Perform controlled substance discrepancy resolution and participate in inventory management.
  • Deliver medications to clinic, procedural treatment, operating room, and patient care areas.
  • Repackage and label medications for distribution and prepare emergency medication kits for pharmacist review and distribution.
  • Perform routine procurement and inventory management of medications, including ordering and receipt of chemotherapy and other pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Process medication requisitions for departments and laboratories for pharmacist verification.
  • Reconcile patient and department medication charges.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment and assist in maintaining related Pharmacy records and files.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of one to two years of college preferred.
  • Maintains current unrestricted Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician licensure.
  • Holds and maintains current National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or has a minimum of one-year licensed pharmacy technician work experience.
  • Possesses basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The Pharmacy Technician will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver medication delivery equipment and pharmaceutical-related inventories. The physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods is also required.

Independent Action

The Pharmacy Technician will perform independently within department policies and practices, referring specific complex problems to the supervisor as needed.
