The primary aim is to implement the scheduled activities for the Before and After School Care program, ensuring a secure and enriching environment for all participants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESThe Child Care Monitor I is responsible for the following duties:
- Comply with the Before and After School Child Care Quality Standards.
- Oversee and facilitate activities or designated areas to provide suitable experiences for children.
- Establish and uphold appropriate behavior standards for children using constructive methods that promote self-discipline and enhance self-esteem.
- Ensure direct supervision of play areas and children's activities to maintain safety and quality.
- Engage in evaluating activities and scheduling for children.
- Assist in acquiring equipment and managing the cleanup of supplies for planned activities.
- Report incidents to the relevant personnel.
- Provide timely feedback on necessary program supplies and materials.
- Foster a collaborative relationship with all staff members.
- Interact positively with parents and direct inquiries and concerns to the Child Care Supervisor as needed.
- Conduct all activities in accordance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of Broward County Public Schools.
- Participate in training programs to enhance individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Stay informed about current developments, literature, and technical resources related to job duties.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules and procedures.
- Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the On-Site Child Care Supervisor or School Administrator.
- A standard high school diploma or successful completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program is required.
- Experience, training, or volunteer work with school-age children in a group supervision setting is necessary.
- Must complete the BASCC Comprehensive Child Care Component I and II within the first year.
- Alternatively, must complete the Florida Department of Children and Families (My Florida) three modules: Special Needs Appropriate Practices (SNP-10 hours), Understanding Developmentally Appropriate Practices (UDAP-5 hours), and School-Age Appropriate Practices (SAP – 5 hours) within the first year (a Preschool (PSP) certification is not acceptable).
- Additionally, at least 10 hours of approved BASCC Child Care training is required annually.
- Basic computer skills are necessary for the position.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Medium work: Involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
EMPLOYMENT TERMSSalary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the District's approved compensation plan. The length of the work year and hours of employment will be determined by the School Board.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONPerformance will be assessed in accordance with Board Policy.
