Position Overview:

Under general oversight and in collaboration with the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse utilizes clinical judgment to assess and address health responses to actual or potential medical issues. The RN is accountable for evaluating, planning, directing, and delivering nursing care to patients while coordinating nursing activities with other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment: Conducts thorough multi-system evaluations, encompassing biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational needs, and discharge planning. Identifies abnormalities in routine laboratory diagnostic tests and reassesses patients throughout their hospital stay. Completes comprehensive discharge assessments.
  • Planning: Formulates a personalized nursing care plan that considers the developmental needs of the patient. Coordinates care activities and discharge planning with various hospital departments and community organizations. Develops and documents patient education plans, appropriately delegates care tasks based on patient condition and the scope of practice of other healthcare providers, and prioritizes patient care effectively.
  • Implementation: Initiates necessary actions based on established protocols for managing medical and surgical patients. Executes the physician's care plan accurately, documents care in the electronic medical record, and adheres to policy and procedure guidelines. Employs a multidisciplinary approach when suitable, performs all required procedures competently, and accurately calculates and administers medications. Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Evaluation: Assesses the effectiveness of assessment methods, care plans, and patient responses to treatment. Engages in unit quality assurance initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience:

  • At least nine (9) months of RN experience.

One (1) year of recent ICU nursing experience or successful completion of the Kaiser ICU cross-training program.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certificate within three months of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficient computer keyboarding skills.
  • Experience with drug calculations.
  • Familiarity with Cardiac Rhythm Recognition.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior healthcare experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of recent ICU nursing experience preferred.
  • CCRN certification preferred.
  • Experience with Dialysis, SLED, or equivalent preferred.
